Let It Rain

from Awakening by Liz Cirelli

/

about

Just over two years ago my beloved Mamma transitioned to the other side. In the months approaching her passing, once I had begun to understand she was reaching the end of her time with us, I wrote this song.

It was written to remind myself about the transitory nature of life. To remind myself also of the need to be humble enough to surrender to its flow. To accept - even during the more painful times.

The first verse is about the inevitability of the end we all share - and how, despite the see-saw of emotions we experience as humans, there remains a constant that underpins the human life experience - namely the peace and equanimity we can choose to rest in, even during the turbulent times. This is the state we can reside in when we access the true nature of mind - no matter what may be going on around us.

The second verse is about the transitional period - when someone knows they are passing, but still wants to remain within this realm, close to those they love. It touches on how far away someone who is transitioning becomes...when they start becoming distant - and how this affects the minds of the people around them. It is a heartbreaking period of realisation.

The words "let it rain" throughout the song are a constant reminder to surrender - to let life happen - for just like the rain, there is nothing we can do to stop it.

Love you, Mummy. You are always with us.

lyrics

We all live
And we all die
One day we will have to say goodbye.
Let it rain.

We all laugh
And we feel pain
But to me it’s all the same.
And let it rain.

Let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain

Have so much
I want to say
But, they tell me
Here you cannot stay.
Let it rain.

In my mind
The visions play.
You’re still here and yet so far away.
Let it rain

Let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain

Oh
Let it rain oh
Let it rain
Let it rain

Oh oh oh
Oh Lord and let it rain
Down on me.
